Caller was impersonating a postal inspector and federal agent trying to lure me to a location many miles away and then probably try to break into my home. Do not fall for it! Just a phone scam!

No idea randomly call

They called I said hello 3 or 4 times and they mummbled something and hung up

Called early on a Saturday morning, saying call is being recorded and looking for someone I don't know. When I said they must have the wrong number they continued to ask if I knew of a contact number for that person. How would I know a contact number for someone I don't know.

Asked me if I knew someone who considered me a friend who I haven't spoke to in years

I believe this phone call was reference to a job I applied to a while back. Nothing popped up on my google search however.
